Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

At the Nutritional Neuroscience Group, we study the perceptual experiences associated with food consumption. Our goal is to understand the cortical processes that drive acquisition of new flavor preferences, their interactions with interoceptive feedback, and their role in appetite regulation. Separate lines of our research explore various aspects of these questions mainly through psychophysical testing and functional/structural neuroimaging, using smell and taste as our main stimulus modalities.

Your mission

As a postdoc on our new ERC Starting Grant, you will be conducting research exploring the cortical coding of taste-like properties of food odors during learning and retrieval, and its development over time. In this role, you will be the central person developing pipelines for fMRI data analysis, and setting up novel experimental designs involving perceptual stimulation via nose and mouth. In collaboration with the rest of the team, you will write manuscript drafts and grant applications. You will have the opportunity to work with collaborators both locally and internationally, and will be encouraged to develop new projects in the domain of chemosensory perceptual neuroscience according to your own interests. The position is for two years, with possibility for extension.

Your profile

We are looking for a collaborative person with strong analytical skills, and a curiosity for understanding how perceptual information is represented in the human brain. Programming skills in at least one relevant programming language (e. g. Python, R, Matlab), are a requirement for this position. Previous experience with MRI data analysis, especially multivariate methods and machine learning, is strongly desirable. An educational background in perceptual/cognitive neuroscience or a related discipline is advantageous, as is experience with behavioral experimental methods. English is the main language of communication in the research group, therefore strong written and spoken English skills are necessary. You should have experience in academic writing and publishing your work. We are looking for an individual who shows initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
