The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2018 of 490 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 75 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

Together with other researchers, the candidate will contribute to an ongoing project aimed at exploring the role of body-mind connection in the development of dementia and the interaction with environmental factors. The selected candidate will be also required to participate to the data collection by assessing the diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders among SNAC-K participants. Research finalized in publications in peer-reviewed journals and reports to disseminate research findings outside academia will be the central work task. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to contribute with her/his expertise to data management and analysis of other projects carried out within the research group. The candidate is expected also to be active writing applications for funding. Finally, teaching at first- and second-cycle level at Karolinska Institutet will also be among the working tasks.

This is a temporary position of 2 years.

Your profile

The applicant needs to hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology within the last 3 years. The candidate has to be a medical doctor with clinical and research experience in the field of neurology and/or neurogeriatrics. Good knowledge and use of statistical software (SAS/Stata/R) are required.

The applicant should have extensive experience in using and interpreting longitudinal population-based data and register data. Excellent collaborative, communication and writing skills are needed. Very good English skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position. A sufficiently good knowledge of Swedish is required to participate in the SNAC-K diagnostic procedure.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
