In our research group you will find a wide range of expertise in different branches of epidemiology and research methodology. Common themes are related to the improvement of populations´ health throughout the whole continuum of epidemiology applied to public health, from surveillance to unravelling of determinants and mechanisms of diseases to intervention evaluation. Your mission

We are looking for an outstanding and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team. The successful applicant will work on a project focused on the potential causal association between tobacco use and risk of Covid-19. The project rests on a consortium between Karolinska Institutet, the Norwegian Institute for Public Health and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare.

The postdoctoral researcher will therefore work with an international research team. The main tasks include data management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and career development initiatives, including congress participation and submitting funding applications.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a Postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

The successful applicant is expected to have:

  • Documented skills in summarizing existing literature in the field, and in formulating research questions based on existing evidence
  • Experience of conducting epidemiologic studies
  • Knowledge of communicable disease epidemiology and/or of tobacco research
  • Interest for the project’s topic
  • Experience in handling large-scale health record data, such as Nordic register-based data  
  • Advanced data management skills using statistical software (preferably SAS and/or STATA)
  • Interest in working in an international research group, preferably with experience of international collaborations
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication in English
  • Motivation, problem solving ability and social skills are highly valuable
