Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at CLINTEC, Karolinska Institutet, is responsible for teaching medical students Human Reproduction and Development and an optional course on perinatology. We also teach international exchange students. Students acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills through a variety of teaching methods including lecturers, seminars, digital learning, simulation training as well as clinical clerkship. We are also directly involved in training specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology in close collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital, one of the most modern and largest hospitals in Europe. We have state of the art Center for Advanced Simulation Training (CAMST) run by experienced trainers. We want to put more focus on outcome oriented learning for our medical students and doctors, and enhance learning experience by integrating research in teaching environment.

Your mission

The purpose of this position is to develop educational program/curriculum, evaluate educational methods/products, simulations, and clinical training. The postdoctoral fellow employed in this position will be involved in research dedicated to improving attitude, knowledge and skills (communication, practical clinical and surgical) of medical students, doctors under specialization, midwives, nurses as well as other healthcare professionals working individually and in teams.

In this role you will work with the colleagues within the research team and collaborate with other research groups nationally and internationally. You will participate in planning and conducting research. You will also write and publish original research articles, reviews and reports in high impact scientific journals and communicate/disseminate research findings via other scientific media and communication channels including presentations in conferences. You will also deliver relevant lectures to students, academic peers and public.

Your profile

To be eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral fellow you must have obtained a doctorate (PhD)in Education or Medicine or have a degree deemed to be equivalent to a PhD degree and relevant teaching and scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

You should have scientific competence relevant to the field of education research and considerable knowledge and experience in one or several of the following areas:

  • Knowledge of current developments in medical and healthcare education
  • Support, teach, advise and facilitate student learning in formal teaching sessions
  • Course program and curriculum development
  • Previous experience in delivering education, ideally in an inter-professional setting
  • Teaching and evaluating clinical skills
  • Involvement in research/ grant writing and applications for funding/scientific publications/public presentation
  • Experience in supervising, conducting and evaluating skills training
  • Digital and online learning including simulation and virtual reality training
  • Previous research experience related to teaching practical clinical skills in obstetrics and genecology would be useful.

The working languages are Swedish and English, and the applicant is expected to be proficient in both spoken and written English and Swedish. A genuine interest in research, good collaboration and communication skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team are important for this position.
