Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

We are looking for a passionate bioinformatician interested in developing data analysis tools for the Molecular Tumor Board Portal, a clinical decision support system to guide molecular based medicine in cancer (see here for more details). MTB-portal is a tool to harness research knowledge for patient benefit. The system is used by 7 European comprehensive cancer centers as a clinical and sequencing data repository, a tool for tumor molecular profiles interpretation, and a framework to report results.

The position will be placed in the Cancer proteomics Mass spectrometry research group headed by Professor Janne Lehtiö at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). The Lehtiö group is a translational group aiming to improve cancer treatment using multi-omics tumor data analysis. The group members are from various disciplines working as a team to study genes and proteins in the context of biological networks, understand how tumor molecular changes impact the proteome and discover new disease biomarkers to be exploited therapeutically. Scientists and engineers in our group work closely together using a variety of technologies to generate novel knowledge about the biology of the disease and implement tools to support the clinical-decision making in the oncology setting.

Your mission

We seek a highly motivated bioinformatician interested in developing cancer omics data analysis tools for the clinical setting. In detail, the candidate will work in the Molecular Tumor Board Portal, a clinical decision support system that informs the use of non-standard therapies in advanced tumors (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0969-2). The candidate will complement the existing team and will be involved in several tasks, including: developing new analytical methods; integrating third-party tools and databases in existing pipelines; establishing standard operating procedures for software release and maintenance; and participating in scientific discussions. Experience in molecular data (genomics, transcriptomics and/or proteomics) is a definitive advantage for this job. Knowledge of back-end systems is not demanded but applicants will be required to be able to collaborate with back-end engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new bioinformatic tools for molecular data analysis
  • Integrate methods and databases into production pipelines
  • Establish standard operating procedures for software release and maintenance
  • Support scientific progress focused on translational application

Your profile

Qualifications /Requirements:

  • Background in bioinformatics or computational biology
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Python)
  • Experience in releasing production software and pipelines
  • Fluent in English language, both spoken and written
  • Interest in cancer medicine

Mertis:

  • Experience with back-end infrastructures
  • Experience with web front-end technology and user experience.
  • Experience in working with standard operating procedures

Since the position involves close interaction with several researchers, emphasis is placed on personal skills such as:

  • Very good collaborative skills
  • Excellent communication skills and analytical skills
