Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Childhood Cancer Research Unit

Our unit offers a unique environment to work closely with top researchers in the borderland between neonatology and neuroscience, as well as state-of-the-art facilities to perform pre-clinical and clinical research. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to high quality research at a leading international institution.

Research group

The Blomgren lab has a long experience in perinatal brain injury models. We use in vivo mouse and rat models. The goal of our research is to identify novel mechanisms of injury mediated by brain immune cells and vagal nerve stimulation. We aim to generate novel prevention and treatment strategies to reduce the brain injury and improve the motor dysfunction and cognitive decline.

The lab is located in Bioclinicum on floor 9 and work is also performed in the KMB animal facility. The group provides excellent training opportunities in an international working environment, national and international collaborations, and possibilities to publish articles in high-impact journals.

Your mission

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated research assistant with an interest to work on understanding the mechanisms of perinatal brain injury in a rat model of hypoxia-ischemia and to develop novel therapies aimed at preserving motor function and cognition.

The tasks will include animal handling, hypoxia-ischemia procedures, intranasal mechanical stimulation, immunohistochemistry, mRNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, real time qPCR, behavioural tasks. We also expect the applicant to be able to acquire immunohistochemical images, process and evaluate imaging data, perform statistical analyses, and prepare scientific manuscripts under supervision.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a research assistant is someone who has obtained a bachelor degree in biology, medicine, pharmacology or a related field. We seek a person with hands-on experience in hypoxic/ischemic encephalopathy animal models, immunohistochemistry, behavioural tasks and good statistical knowledge. Social and collaborative skills are very important since the applicant will work closely with other members of the research team and collaborators. Fluency in both written and spoken English is a requirement.
