About us

The Clinical Genomics unit is a national research infrastructure at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). Our mission is to contribute to the implementation of precision diagnostics and precision medicine in Sweden. Together with researchers and healthcare providers in Sweden, we perform advanced genomics analyses (large-scale DNA sequencing) and work to develop and implement the advanced tests in healthcare. The aim is to facilitate world-leading research and to ensure that diagnostics in Sweden are at the cutting edge, internationally. We also have a broad Nordic and European network of partners and participate in several joint projects.

Your mission

We are looking for someone with experience of system administration in a linux environment, to assist with the development and implementation of advanced genomics analysis for precision medicine. It is possible to adapt the job based on your competencies and areas of interest. For example, the role can be combined with the development of the backend.

The role may include:

  • Help defining needs with respect to server and other hardware infrastructure, and contributing to installation, support, backup and other maintenance together with SciLifeLab IT and third-party vendors
  • Contributing to the development of the information management systems, information security, data flows, large-scale data management, and database architecture
  • Ensuring knowledge transfer of information management systems through training and documentation

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a degree in computer science from a university, university college or equivalent competence. We would like to stress that knowledge of biology or precision medicine is not needed for this role, while interest and curiosity in the field is of course welcome.

Requirements for the role:

  • Experience of system administration and very good competence in linux
  • Experience of programming in bash and python
  • Good knowledge of IT infrastructure in general and servers and hardware in particular
  • Experience of working with the version management system Git
  • Understanding IT security

It is important that you enjoy working in a team and that you can contribute to internal and external collaborations.

Meriting experiences:

We would like for you to have some or more of the following experiences, but it is not a requirement:

  • Experience of establishing specifications and purchasing IT systems
  • Experience of delivering structured code, setting up automated tests and continuous integration testing with e.g. Github actions or Travis CI
  • Experience of or strong interest in working with Docker/Singularity/Podman/Kubernete's technologies
  • Experience of working in cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP, or other environments)
  • Experience of both SQL and noSQL database (for example mongoDB) technologies
  • Experience of working with computational resources (e.g. SLURM)
