The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The geriatric pharmacoepidemiological group’s mission is to investigate and improve drug utilization among older adults. Our research areas include inappropriate medication use, polypharmacy, register-based pharmacoepidemiology, medication use in frail older adults and inequality in medication use. Besides medication use, we also conduct research in related areas such as health, use of health- and eldercare in older adults. We belong to the aging research group at MEB.

Your mission

The Postdoctoral Researchers will take part in planning and conducting research studies, including data management, data analyses and conducting systematic reviews. The Postdoctoral Researchers will be involved in supervision, teaching, dissemination of research findings, grant writing and production of research articles. Production of research articles for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals will be a central activity. The position also includes support and coordination in national and international collaborations and projects.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

  • The applicant should have a PhD (or equivalent scientific competence) in medical sciences, epidemiology, pharmacology or related fields.
  • The applicant should have conducted research, and published research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, within geriatric epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, or related areas.
  • The applicant must be able to extract, manage and analyze large data sets.
  • Have documented skills in use of statistical software, such as Stata, SAS or R.
  • Experience of working with routinely collected administrative data/register data (health registers, electronic health records or claims data) is meritorious.
  • Experience of conducting systematic reviews is meritorious.
  • Excellent skills in English, both written and oral, is required.
  • Knowledge in Swedish is meritorious.

In addition, the applicants must be able to work independently and multidisciplinary, take own initiatives, and have excellent collaboration skills. The applicant must also have excellent communication and organizational skills. Personal characteristics is of great importance in the assessment of the applicants.
