The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2018 of 490 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 75 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

The Senior Researcher will contribute to ongoing research activities at ARC, both conceptually and methodologically. The candidate will lead an independent research group within the research area “epidemiology of aging”. A major task for the successful applicant will be developing new projects and acquiring external grants. The position also involves a high level of engagement in postgraduate education, including organizing courses and supervising doctoral and postdoctoral students. The candidate will also be involved in fundraising.

Your profile

A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor (or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence) and has conducted documented research in the area of epidemiology of aging after the doctoral degree corresponding to the qualifications of Assistant Professor. A strong track record of publications and research grants is required.

In particular, we are looking for a person with extensive publications in the area of epidemiology of aging, with a special focus on the effects of social and physical environment on adult health and longevity.

Publications in high-impact international journals and international collaborations are considered meritorious. Furthermore, a solid, documented background in epidemiological and statistical methods is weighted heavily in the recruitment process. The applicant is expected to demonstrate some experience in supervising doctoral and postdoctoral students. Previous experience in scientific coordination and leadership is desirable.
