Interested in participating in cutting-edge Immunotherapy?

Like to make a difference and really translate to those in need with Cancer?

The candidate will work in the research group of Stephan Mielke, professor of hematology and cell therapy at Karolinska Institutet and head of Karolinska’s Center for Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell Therapy (CAST) at the University Hospital in Huddinge. His translational group of scientists, physicians, physician-scientists and other health care professionals is looking for solutions on how to reset or enhance the immune system’s capacity to fight cancer. The group has a strong focus on cell and gene therapies, such as the use of reprogrammed T cells (CAR T cells or TCR-engineered T cells) and allogenic stem cell transplantation to recognize and kill cancer cells. The group is looking for an exceptional person with high motivation serving as a team-oriented lab manager coordinating and enabling the group’s various projects. This will also include work with SWECARNET, Sweden’s national platform for CAR T cell therapies.

Your mission
You will have organizational and administrative tasks, keeping track on day-to-day routines, including daily technical support functions in the lab, administration associated with chemical and biological work, economics of the group, introduction of new members in the team, organization of group meetings and representation of the group when the group leader is not present. It is expected that the lab manager keeps track of funding possibilities for group members and assists the group leader in communication tasks both internally and with collaborators. Performing laboratory work is included in the position, including all aspects of an immunology lab, such as molecular biology, cell culture and flow cytometry. The pursuit of possible independent projects will be encouraged. However, teamwork stands in the center.

Qualifications
The applicant must have a solid background in molecular biology, biomedicine or biotechnology and immunology. A Master’s degree or equivalent is mandatory; a PhD degree is a merit. Practical lab experience is essential, especially in the areas of Cell culturing, PCR-work and Flow-cytometry. The applicant should have previous experience from work with cell- and gene therapy and/or immunology.

The successful candidate is team-oriented but can work independently as well, is well-organized, takes responsibility in own actions and likes to work in a highly dynamic environment with diverse tasks, taking overall pride in providing service to the team. We are looking for a detailed oriented but also energetic and creative person who fits in the interdisciplinary and multicultural setting they are going to be located at. Good oral and written language skills in English are a prerequisite for an application.

In addition, knowledge in the use and administration of electronic research documentation is required and experience with chemical registries (such as the Swedish KLARA system) and risk assessments is considered an advantage. Considering that many of the regulatory documents are in Swedish only, fluency in oral and written Swedish will be highly advantageous. Experience in translational work and communications with clinical partners is also a merit.

Department
The Department of Laboratory of Medicine, located in Campus Flemingsberg, is one of the Karolinska Institutet’s largest departments, consisting of 7 divisions involved in many areas of basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research, including the Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM) where the team is working. The lab is placed in ANA Futura, providing a translational integrated research environment equipped for cutting-edge research, where the boundaries between institutions and clinics are torn down and researchers collaborate on the basis of common research profiles. The facility contains highly specialized infrastructures, such as a pre-GMP laboratory, working in close collaboration with the GMP facility Vecura at the Karolinska University Hospital. ANA Futura also hots several of KI’s core-facilities with research platforms and world-class equipment.
