Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The research group of Professor Anders Kvanta together with Dr. Helder André aims to develop various advanced approaches to treat disease in the eye. In close collaboration with Dr. Fredrik Lanner they have developed efficient methodologies to generate functional retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells from embryonic stem cells to treat Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) with a first-in-human clinical trial in development. The laboratories are now taking their next step to establish photoreceptors also. In this project you will be performing cutting edge stem cell biology in the interphase of fundamental-to-translational academic research, and industrial pharmaceutical partners.

Your mission

You will be integrated in both Professor Kvanta and Dr Lanners research groups and develop our program aiming at generating stem cell derived functional photoreceptor to treat retinal degeneration. This includes extensive work both by establishing differentiation strategies and employing the cellular product in our animal disease models.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Prior experience of stem cell culture and differentiation is required and a background in related differentiations are preferable. Experience in flow cytometry, imaging, genome editing, transcriptional analysis, biomaterials and ophthalmology are all beneficial.

Excellent communication skills with documented history, ability to easily integrate into the laboratory environment and interact both socially and scientifically with other colleagues and collaborators is essential (working language reverts to English recurrently). The ideal candidate should be ambitious, strongly motivated and independent to develop the project and successfully troubleshoot emerging issues.
