The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. We educate almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. We are looking for the person who wants to contribute to the work at our Department! Aging Research Center (ARC), NVS is a multidisciplinary academic environment.

Your mission

The employment has a focus on research.

We are looking for a Senior Lecturer with a strong commitment to develop the research and education in geriatric epidemiology with focus on cardiometabolic disorders, nutrition, and dementing disorders.

The position focuses mainly on research in the subject area and supervision in postgraduate education. The Senior Lecturer will have a significant role in the development and extension of the research lines of metabolic and nutritional aspects in relation to medical and biological factors and their effect on health in aging. This means that the candidate should be able to independently lead research in the field and promote a multidisciplinary collaboration with other researchers at ARC. Teaching graduate course in geriatric epidemiology and the master's program in public health sciences are included in the tasks.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant must be an active and independent researcher in aging research with experience of supervising postgraduate students in an interdisciplinary environment and have experience of teaching in the subject area.

In addition, the following are required: (a) research experience with longitudinal analysis of large datasets, (b) specific competence in geriatric epidemiology with focus on metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders.

Bases of assessment 

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (1).

It is especially meritorious with research experience within (a) the interplay of cardiometabolic disorders and genetic factors in relation to cognitive impairment and dementia; (b) the role of nutrition and diet in cognitive aging; (c) the impact of sensory function on cognitive decline and brain MRI changes, and (d) the exploration of mechanisms that compensate for dementing disorders in people with cardiometabolic disorders.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate national and international collaborations in research on aging is a merit.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching or have equivalent competence in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
