- with focus on education and research

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of Karolinska Institutet’s students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 500 employees and a revenue 2019 of 497 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The Division of Physiotherapy conducts high-quality education at basic and advanced levels, research education and research within physiotherapy. Education is offered at entry-level bachelor (Study Programme in Physiotherapy), advanced level (one-year Master) and doctoral education. The division also provides several supplementary courses and contracted courses targeting professionals or others. Approximately 50 teachers/researchers and administrators are employed at the division, and 20 doctoral students. The Division is now recruiting a Senior Lecturer.

Your mission

We are looking for a person with a strong commitment and scientific competence in physiotherapy who can contribute to developing both education and research, preferably within musculoskeletal physiotherapy. In your role as a Senior Lecturer you are expected to develop and strengthen the education and research in physiotherapy. The employment tasks include planning, conducting and evaluating courses in various areas of physiotherapy, such as the musculoskeletal system and physical activity. Teaching duties will be within the Study Programme in Physiotherapy, at basic and advanced level as well as within supplementary courses with associated course responsibilities, examinations and scientific supervision. Swedish is the main language used in entry-level education, therefore proficiency in Swedish is required, however teaching activities in English may occur.

As a Senior Lecturer you have the opportunity to contribute to the academic leadership at the division as well as take part in national and international networks. You also have the opportunity to develop interprofessional research and research education in cooperations within KI. The work tasks will be tailored to some degree based on the applicant’s competencies and interests as well as the needs of the organization. This can also evolve and change over time.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant must be a registered physiotherapist.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.

We are looking for someone who has established their own research line/group within physiotherapy. Furthermore, documented knowledge and experience of teaching physiotherapy at university level is required. As the teaching is mainly conducted in Swedish, good language skills in Swedish in speech and writing are required.

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (1), and clinical expertise (2).

When assessing the pedagogical skills, particular consideration will be given to planning, conducting and evaluation of teaching. When assessing the scientific skills, particular emphasis will be placed on proficiency in research within musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

It is meritorious if you have experience of supervision of doctoral students and experience of leadership. Having experience of course responsibilities, pedagogical development work, and clinical experience is also considered of merit. As the position involves many internal and external contacts, we value the ability to cooperate, experiences of committee work as well as national and international contacts.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
