The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.
The position is for one year in the group of Per Nillsson. The lab of Per Nilsson is focusing on preclinical research on Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by accumulation of amyloid β peptide (Aβ) into extracellular Aβ plaques and this is one of the drivers of the disease. Therefore, it is important to understand the generation of Aβ. To do so we use Alzheimer mouse models which exhibit Aβ pathology. The candidate will explore molecular entities involved in Aβ generation of Aβ including the enzyme Sppl2b. The project also involves development of potential treatments using biocapsule delivery device to administer biological compounds to the brain to treat AD symptoms in the Alzheimer mouse models.
A person is eligible to be appointed Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor. The applicant needs to have good communicative capabilities since the work is collaborative. Good ability to speak and write English is also a requirement. A strong scientific drive is expected, documented with a publication record. The successful applicant should have extensive experiences and practical skills from research animal work including animal behavior assessing cognition and memory, brain surgery in mice as well as cell-and molecular biology techniques such as, immunohistochemistry and regular protein analysis methods. Previous research experience from neurodegenerative diseases/neuroscience and working with mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease is a merit.
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants, which includes both practical and theoretical knowledge in neuroscience and Alzheimer’s disease.
