The Division of Clinical Immunology at the Department of Laboratory medicine presently has three research groups in clinical immunology and cell therapy. The division has a very strong track record in immunogenetic research. One professor has a position combined with clinical position as a physician at Karolinska Karolinska University Hospital.  

The Department of Laboratory medicine is one of the departments at Karolinska Institutet with the highest educational activities and the Division of Clinical immunology has a central role in the immunology education of medical doctors, biomedical analysts, nurses, dental hygienists and dentists.

Your mission

We are looking for a person with internationally successful research in the area of clinical immunology.

The duties comprise conducting successful education of research students and to some extent in basic education in the different programs at Karolinska Institutet. Among the tasks are also to conduct experimental and translational research within immunogenetics or other relevant areas. The academic duties are carried out at Karolinska Institutet, Campus Flemingsberg. Depending on the background of the successful applicant, the position may be combined with a clinical position at the Department of Clinical Immunology and Transfusion medicine, Karolinska University Laboratory, Karolinska University Hospital.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant should be an established researcher with internationally leading research in the field, have well documented collaboration and leadership skills and experience with translational research in a clinical environment. The applicant should, as principal investigator, have received national or international research grants in competition within the research field and have a potential of retrieving stable funding. The applicant should also have experience with supervision of PhD-students to dissertation.

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (2).

We put particular emphasis on research quality and future potential of conducting translational research in immunogenetics or other relevant areas.

Clinical expertise is meritorious and will therefore be considered.  It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has relevant clinical experience that enables an assignment in clinical diagnostics.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
