Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

Stefan Skare’s research group develops new image acquisition techniques in brain MRI. One key research area involves real-time motion correction of the brain. Another key research focus is ultrafast MRI. The research group consists of seven MR physicists (PhD level) employed by Region Stockholm, KI and the industry. Located at the Dept of Neuroradiology, Karolinska University Hospital, the research and development are conducted in close collaboration with MR radiographers and neuroradiologists.

Your mission

You will work independently with advanced research in the areas between clinical neuroscience, MR physics and biomechanical engineering applied to MRI. You will be part of an MR physics team with a strong connection to clinical brain MRI at the Karolinska University Hospital, why a genuine interest in transforming developed technology and methods in academic and clinical practice is expected. The position is ideal for a person with interest in a future carrier as researcher in clinical neuroscience with a focus on biomedical engineering and MRI.

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 6 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Eligibility requirements

You must have a PhD in MR physics or biomedical engineering as well as several years of experience in technology development and technical research in MRI. Furthermore, we are looking for someone with experience of and development of their own research line in MRI physics or MRI engineering with applications on the brain

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.

Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist. Special grounds refer to illness or parental leave.

Bases of assessment

You should have documented experience in biomemedical engineering and MR physics as well as design for MR applications and real time systems. You should also have a strong interest in clinical neuroscience, thorough experience in programming MRI systems and microcontrollers.

Experience in identifying and addressing problems in MR data by designing relevant experiments is a merit. Prior research and development of motion correction techniques for brain MRI is desirable. So are skills in circuit board design and mechanical 3D designs.

Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants.
