The medical program is an exciting education that always has attracted many students. The education for doctors, which is at an advanced level, provides good scientific and theoretical knowledge as well as advanced practical skills. Right now, the interest in healthcare education such as the medical program is particularly high. Furthermore, a completely new medical program, which spans over 12 semesters, with an emphasis on research-related and integrated learning will be implemented. The Department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset (KI SÖS) therefore wants to strengthen the teaching staff with a researching Senior Lecturer who will have both KI SÖS and Södertälje Hospital as its base. Your mission

The employment as Senior Lecturer and specialist in Internal Medicine or Geriatrics involves an overall responsibility for courses within the medical program at KI SÖS as well as developing research regarding common diseases within the department, at Södertälje Hospital as well as in collaboration with other departments within KI. The employment will include shared responsibility for the course clinical medicine including internal medicine and geriatrics within the medical program, or corresponding courses within the new medical program. Other teaching activities may also be included. The employment includes responsibility for the development of integrated learning (VIL) at Södertälje Hospital. An important part of the work will be to develop an academical leadership within pedagogy and research within the field of Internal Medicine or Geriatrics at KI SÖS and Södertälje Hospital.

The Senior Lectureship will be combined with clinical duty as specialist trained physician at the department of Internal Medicine or Geriatrics at Södertälje Hospital, where clinical experience and knowledge is of great importance to be able to organize the clinical education and research in the best way possible. The employment involves 50% clinical work and 50% teaching and research.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills and clinical expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet). The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.

The applicant must have experience of clinical education within medical programs, clinical work and supervision on different levels.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician in Internal Medicine or Geriatrics at Södertälje Hospital and therefore the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden. If the appointee fulfills Södersjukhuset’s requirements for employment as Senior Registrar or Senior Consultant, the appointee can be offered this position.

Since the clinical work includes contact with patients, good knowledge of both speaking and writing in Swedish is a requirement.

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (2).

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
