Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral candidate to join the laboratory of Vanessa Lundin, who is currently establishing her research group at the Karolinska Institute. The group is one of 15 research groups at the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) located at Department of Medicine, Huddinge (http://ki.se/medh/herm). HERM is a nationally leading and internationally competitive research environment for studies of hematopoiesis, blood disorders and the human immune system, with the vision to become one of the leading translational research centers in Europe within this field. The environment offers state-of-the art cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, sequencing and microscopy facilities. In our group, you will be working in a highly translational and multidisciplinary setting, where collaborative efforts are encouraged.

Project description
The main focus of the Lundin lab is to use pluripotent stem cells to understand regulation of human hematopoiesis and to model disease. In vitro work relies on the maintenance and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells as well as sample preparation and analysis of human primary tissues. By integrating concepts in material science, we are establishing novel cell culture systems that emulate in vivo hematopoietic niches, with the goal to identify molecular mediators of extrinsic cues and understand how they direct blood formation in health and disease. This position provides an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge technology and work at the interface of biomedicine and stem cell biology.

Entry requirements
The applicant must have a Ph.D. degree from a foreign university, and should not have resided in Sweden longer than eight months prior to applying. A background in cell or molecular biology with extensive experience in cell culture is required. Knowledge in next generation sequencing methods and flow cytometry is preferable. Previous work utilizing bioengineering methodology is an attractive, but not required, qualification.

Scientific rigor and the ability to stay on top of the relevant research field are absolute requirements. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to integrate well into the international and interdisciplinary research environment here at HERM. Personal suitability and motivation for the position will be assessed. Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English is required.

Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months with the possibility to extend for another 12 months.

Application process
The application must contain the following documents in English:

  • A maximum one page cover letter summarizing motivation for the position, previous experience and research interests.
  • A complete curriculum vitae of current work and work history.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Names and contact details of three references.
  • Ph.D. diploma (or verification of scheduled Ph.D. defense from the Thesis Committee)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
