Karolinska Institutet Biobank (KI Biobank) is a core-facility at Karolinska Institutet situated at the department of medical epidemiology and biostatistics (MEB). Its purpose is to provide services and infrastructure for biobanking of samples and data for ethically approved research studies with the goal of improving public health. Our vision is to offer cost effective services with high quality and security that meet researchers’ need of fast and flexible research infrastructure. After fifteen years of steady growth the biobank holds samples and related data from half a million Swedish residents.

We need to ensure that our IT systems are sustainable, highly effective and can be further developed to meet evolving needs and opportunities. The IT department at KI biobank is composed of six software developers working together on systems to support sample- and data collection for scientists not only at Karolinska Institutet but also around Sweden.

Your mission

The purpose of your role as software developer at KI biobank is to work with development and maintenance of the IT systems that enable traceability of samples and data as well as the operations of the KI biobank. This includes donor data and data flows, as well as integration and visualization of these, laboratory information management system (LIMS), laboratory robots, the databases and other applications.

You will be part of an exciting working place with close contact to medical research on many diseases and health. This includes working with development of tools that researchers need to see and use their data on both samples and donors in an easy and flexible way. Furthermore, the role also includes development and maintenance of IT systems that support all the functions at KI biobank, customer interaction as well as integration and development of various applications for sample data and other medical data.

Your profile

Requirements

  • University degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Backend programming skills in Javascript (NodeJS) and /or Java
  • Experience of version control
  • Experience in T-SQL Experience of SQL server
  • Knowledge of database design Knowledge about database concepts with skills on how to use MySQL
  • Good knowledge in both written and oral English

Desirable skills

  • Experience in Integrations
  • Good knowledge in both written and oral Swedish
