In the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health – CESH - you will find a diverse and passionate group of colleagues from Karolinska Institutet and Makerere University working towards sustainable health for all through the Sustainable Development Goals.
CESH is a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Makerere University and is currently under development. We use the definition for sustainable health which stresses that sustainable development implies a development that ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We illustrate it by putting the health of people in the centre of the SDGs.
One of the main activities of CESH the coming years is the Sida funded project “Building capacity for sustainable development in fragile states - Spearheading a broader development agenda in Africa through health and well-being”, in the final stage of planning. The aim of this capacity building programme is to develop capacity for implementing cost-effective and innovative solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals across the society of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Somalia and Uganda; including upholding advocacy and accountability mechanisms, using sustainable health as the entry point to unlock other capacities. The ultimate designated impact of this is to reduce poverty and gender inequality, with institutional capacity in Africa to realize the 2030 Agenda improved.
The role of the project coordinator will be to co-lead the planning and execution of this project that will be run in the DRC, Somalia and Uganda together with the CESH team and local country coordinators.

The project coordinator will be part of the CESH working group and take part in other CESH activities as necessary.
We are looking for an experienced global health professional with experience in project management/coordination. You should be self-motivated with a proven track record in conceiving programmes in low-income settings, enjoy working in diverse teams and being able to communicate effectively.
The candidate should have a PhD in Global Health, Public Health, or a similar field or equivalent working experience. The track record must show successful project lead in fragile settings; participation in international collaborations; and experience of working in LMIC settings.
The candidate must be fluent in written and oral English. Very good skills in written and oral Swedish is qualifying along with good knowledge in written and oral French.
Basis of assessment
We stress project management and coordination as well as research expertise when assessing applicants. Further participation in international collaborations; and experience of working in LMIC settings is of high importance.
We will also consider the candidates commitment to effective intercultural communication and collaborative approach to working in partner projects with multiple partners.
