Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Clinical Neuroscience conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular to the society level. The candidate will work in Assoc. Prof. Maja Jagodics research group, physically located at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM). The group studies epigenetic mechanisms underlying Multiple Sclerosis using both large scale omics approaches and molecular in vivo and in vitro functional experiments. We are looking a research coordinator who shares our passion for translational microRNA research and is highly motivated to perform and administer different projects.

Your mission

MS is an immune-mediated disease triggered by complex interactions between genetic and environmental risk factors resulting in a highly heterogeneous disease with respect to its clinical presentation and treatment response. We are looking for a research coordinator who will oversee and contribute to several research projects. These projects will, among others, characterize the role of microRNAs in vivo, using an animal model of MS (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis or EAE), followed up by in vitro experiments. Practical work will involve methods in immunology, molecular biology and experimental models.

Duties include experimental design, performance of experimental methods, data analysis, data interpretation, discussion of results and design with other colleagues, writing scientific articles and presentation of results at meetings. Additionally, duties will include administrative support. The candidate is expected to interact with many collaborators in the unit, at CMM and externally, and to contribute to the efficient functioning of the unit.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated person with a strong interest in neuroimmunology and microRNAs. Qualified to be employed as a research coordinator is one who has obtained a doctoral degree in neuroimmunology/neuroinflammation or has equivalent scientific competence.

Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Absolute requirements

  • Documented knowledge of T cell immunology, small non-coding RNAs and neuroinflammation
  • Strong interest and demonstrated experience with animal model for MS (EAE)
  • FELASA B or equivalent certificate
  • Demonstrated skills in flow cytometry
  • Demonstrated skills in primary cell culture
  • Demonstrated skills in molecular biology, in particular related to RNA and microRNAs analysis
  • Independent problem-solving and flexibility to handle parallel projects
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English

Preferred requirements

The candidates should also have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently but also as a part of a large team. In addition, excellent communication and organization skills are desirable. Experience with writing scientific papers and experience with writing grant applications is a merit.
