Chemical Proteomics Core Facility at KI Biomedicum

The Chemical Proteomics Core Facility of Karolinska Institutet at Biomedicum (ChemProt, https://ki.se/en/mbb/chemical-proteomics-core-facility ), MBB Department, announces a position for Research Engineer in Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells. The Facility is headed by Dr. M.Gaetani and is part of the Division of Physiological Chemistry I, led by prof. R.Zubarev, scientific director of the Facility. ChemProt is a national facility, as node of two national infrastructures – SciLifeLab (https://www.scilifelab.se/facilities/chemical-proteomics/) and BioMS (https://bioms.se/technologies/chemical-proteomics/).

A major focus of the facility is on supporting research by providing complementary proteome-wide approaches to find out how active compounds interact with their target proteins and affect cellular phenotype when incubated in cell cultures and in lysates. The proteomics support can include complete workflow from culturing cells, treating them in situ, LC-MS-based proteomics analysis and full data processing and representation. The facility has currently expanded its activity into the fields of stem cells, regenerative medicine and wound healing. ChemProt has recently obtained the SFO infrastructure grant 2020, aiming to support the ongoing proteomics development in this area of research..

Your mission

The work requires interaction with the staff and research personnel of ChemProt Facility and the rest of the Division. The duties include:

  • participating in experiment planning and writing detailed analysis plans;
  • writing analysis reports to the Head of facility and to the users, on request;
  • performing culture of cells at different pluripotency / differentiation stages and execute cell differentiation and reprogramming protocols;
  • properly maintaining cell populations in culture and their stocks, performing sub-culturing and cell selection;
  • to maintain the stem cell/ regenerative medicine part of the cell culture laboratory;
  • driving the method development related to proteomics applied in the stem cell / regenerative medicine field;
  • participating in other Chemical proteomics activities;
  • participate in data analysis by software analysis and programming.

Your profile

The ideal candidate must have prior experience in the area of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Hands on experience in a cell lab is highly desired. PhD in the areas of molecular biology, stem cells or regenerative medicine is a requirement. The candidate should have familiarity with the tasks of maintaining and treating different cell populations at different differentiation stages, cell type selection and enrichment, possibly by flow cytometry or other selection methods. Prior experience or familiarity with proteomics and/or knowledge of LC-MS is a plus.

English is the working language; good command of it in oral and written communications is a must. A service-oriented personality, good inter-personal skills and the ability to efficiently work in an international research environment are absolutely required.

Experience in programming on at least one computer language, and the ability (alternatively, desire to quickly learn) programming in R is also desired.
