The Petter Brodin’s research group located at Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm is a part of the Unit of Clinical Pediatrics, Karolinska Institutet. The group develops and applies experimental and computational research methods for systems-level analyses of human immune systems. The aim of the team is to understand immune systems’ variation in health and disease and the regulatory mechanisms underlying such variation and adaptation to environmental influences. Another important focus is the development of immune systems in early life.
The responsibilities of this candidate in the lab will mainly involve – conjugation of antibodies to metal isotopes that are used as probes in mass cytometry, antibody test-titration experiments by CyTOF & flow cytometry and maintenance of antibody database/inventory, working together with the facility head in continuous testing and development of new metal probes, high-throughput acquisition of samples by CyTOF (occasionally might involve running machines for long hours in shifts), following the routines established in the CyTOF facility for the maintenance of CyTOF machines, sample reception, processing and recording the sample/subject metadata in the database by coordinating with the person responsible, buffer exchange procedures for samples to be prepped for CyTOF experimentation, and performing any other immunology research lab-related tasks like cell cultures, activating cells etc.
Entry requirements
The successful candidate should have a good lab experience particularly with methods like flow cytometry, antibody staining, cell cultures, sample handling, reagent/buffer preparation, experimentation and experience of method development with iterative testing and careful documentation. Some experience in record maintenance of clinical samples and reagents will be helpful. The successful candidate must be thriving in interdisciplinary environments and should be dedicated to perform the tasks assigned in the lab meticulously and free of errors. The candidate must be comfortable to work both independently and together with the facility head or with other members of the team (when necessary) and contribute to the team’s concerted efforts. The candidate must have good communication skills in English as the team is multicultural and interdisciplinary.
A selection will be made among qualified applicants on the basis of the following criteria:
The qualifications of the applicants will be evaluated on an overall basis.
