The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, and geriatric epidemiology and biostatistics.

Your mission

We are seeking a research assistant to support a project with the aim of modernizing and extending a statistical computing algorithm. The project is a collaboration between researchers at Karolinska Institutet in the Biostatistics Group and involves a public-facing, open-source statistical software program. Tasks will include, but are not restricted to, conducting literature reviews, obtaining and testing software packages, implementing interfaces in R, contributing to written scientific manuscripts, and administrative tasks related to the project. The position will be supervised by Michael Sachs in the Biostatistics Group of Professor Paul Dickman, based at the Solna campus of Karolinska Institutet. This is a position of 6 months with possibility of extension. 

Your profile

The successful applicant must have a Master’s degree or higher in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, or a related discipline, and a strong interest in biostatistics. The applicant must be able to communicate fluently, both orally and in writing, in English, and Swedish language skills are considered a merit. The applicant must have experience and training in software programming, preferably in C++. Experience with optimization, combinatorics, and R programming are considered merits. Web development and being able to write and edit LaTeX documents are others merit as is teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level.

Personal characteristics

The applicant must have the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary research group, but also be able to work independently. The applicant must interface well with other researchers and have a strong willingness to learn new things.
