Within our research team, you will find a multi-disciplinary and passionate group of researchers working to address the Sustainable Development Goals. We have a particular focus on improving survival in children and promoting their ability to thrive. We work in collaborative partnerships with academics, clinicians and government partners in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), to support both operational, observational and evaluation research. The Child Health and SDGs research team has a particular focus on paediatric pneumonia, IMCI and community health, technological innovations and child development.

Your mission

The role of the researcher will include working on the candidates own independent line of research, within the field of child health and the Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on paediatric pneumonia. You will be expected to apply for research grants to support their on-going research activities. You are also expected to participate in teaching at the MSc and doctoral level. You are expected to teach on both the Global Health and Public Health MSc programmes, and deliver doctoral courses subjects such as global health, epidemiology and child health and support thesis project supervision. The researcher is also expected to contribute to the department through doctoral supervision, attending and organising seminar sessions, and joining committees or taking on supportive administrative roles. 

Your profile

A person is eligible to be appointed Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.

We are looking for an experienced epidemiologist with a focus in paediatric pneumonia and more broadly with interests in child survival and wellbeing in LMICs. You should be self-motivated with a proven track record in designing research programmes, working well within teams and being able to communicate effectively.

The candidate must have a doctorate in Global Health, Public Health or Epidemiology. Your research track record must show: successful grant applications; publications in high-ranked academic journals; participation in international collaborations; and experience of working in LMIC settings. Your experience in must include: teaching at BSc, MSc or doctoral level in epidemiology or global health; development of course materials; and supervision of student projects.

The candidate should have formal pedagogical training and be able to demonstrate his/her continued commitment to teaching development. The candidate should have experience of project management and must have an independent line of research.
