Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

You will be joining the Hjerling-Leffler laboratory situated in the division of Molecular Neurobiology (MolNeuro) at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB). Our research group is interested in the genetic and cellular mechanisms of psychiatric disorders. We apply advanced mouse genetics and transcriptomics in combination with electrophysiology and traditional molecular methods. MolNeuro is a vibrant research environment with seven research groups that are intermingled and are sharing facilities and equipment creating a fantastic milieu for postdocs and students.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

To complete a doctoral education means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of an experienced researcher and to follow an individual study plan. The doctoral student will also take courses and write a thesis. After completing their doctoral education at KI, students are to have developed an advanced general knowledge of medical science and scientific methodology, and cutting edge scientific skills. For this project the student will, using transcriptomic methods and virus-induced genetic engineering, study changes in the brain during schizophrenia using both mouse models and human tissue.
