Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The research at our Inflammation Physiology lab aims to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of atherosclerosis, the underlying pathology for myocardial infarction and stroke and hence responsible for most deaths worldwide. We have identified the importance of neutrophils as key drivers of vascular inflammation, unveiled important processes these cells set off, and designed preclinical intervention strategies aimed at halting these processes (e.g. Silvestre-Roig, Nature, 2019; Paulin et al., Circulation, 2018; Alard et al., Sci Transl Med, 2015). In recent years we have learnt that acute cardiovascular events peak at a certain time of day and our studies have revealed circadian leukocyte recruitment as possible cause for such pattern (Winter et al., Cell Metab 2018). We have now teamed up with Novo Nordisk to map changes in circadian gene and protein expression in depth to develop innovative strategies of chronopharmacological intervention.

Your mission & Your Profile

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will employ advanced bioinformatics of transcriptomic and proteomic data sets to map changes across tissues over the day.

The applicant should have a PhD degree with focus on bioinformatics and have an interest in physiology, inflammation, and circadian biology. Basic understanding in systems biology and analysis of large scale data sets are required. Coding skills (e.g. R, python), the ability to set up pipelines, and the ability to work independently are needed. Taking own initiative to move this project forward is desired. Basic
understanding in simple wet lab techniques (e.g. RNA extraction) is a plus. Furthermore, good communication skills and good proficiency in spoken and written English are necessary.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
