The main issues in neuropsychopharmacology are the suboptimal utilization of the currently available drugs and slow progress in novel drug investigation. The area psychiatric pharmacogenetics investigates the impact of DNA structural variations on metabolism, efficacy and tolerability of psychiatric drugs and aims to personalize the treatment with psychiatric drugs, whereas the studies on transgenic animal models aim to test novel candidate drugs in preclinical settings.
The main task is research conducted in areas relevant to the discovery of candidate drug targets for novel psychiatric drugs and personalization of the treatment with currently available psychiatric drugs by using genetic biomarkers.
