Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC) aims to contribute to the improvement of human health by conducting cutting-edge research in reparative medicine and related subjects, by creating a new platform for synergies between academia and innovation in Sweden and Hong Kong as well as China, and fostering future leaders in both academia and industry.


Description of the research group and project

We have long interest in molecular diagnosis in cancer based on longitudinal population cohort study design and advanced next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology with associated data algorithm. Our group has developed advanced technologies that have been adopted globally in both research and clinical settings for precision medicine.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual specialized in bioinformatics to join our team and work on cancer genomics/epigenomics projects. We are interested in studying genomic and epigenomic traces shed by solid tumors into blood. Prospectively collected specimens from large-scale population-based cohort with over 5-year follow-up have been stored in biobank for further analyses.


Responsibility and requirements

The position will be based in the inspiring environment in Hong Kong Science Park, with opportunities to visit collaborator laboratories in Harvard Medical School and National Cancer Institute of NIH. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the data analysis for these projects, including development of data algorithms/pipelines and manuscript writing.

Specific requirements include: 

  • A PhD degree in bioinformatics, data science or relevant fields.
  • Experience in cancer research involving large-scale NGS data analysis, with a proven record of publications.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is required.
  • Ability of programming using C/C++ is preferred but not required


The employment

This is a two-year full-time position, with the possibility of renewal.

The assignment is located at MWLC, Hong Kong, and the employment will follow local labour laws in Hong Kong.

A competitive remuneration package including 10% on top of basic salary (fully-taxable) intended as pension will be offered in addition to MPF employer’s contribution and medical benefits.


Entry requirements

At KI the Postdoctoral researcher position is regarded as an early career step after a doctoral degree. Qualified to be employed as a Postdoctoral researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

To be qualified for this position, a doctorate in bioinformatics, data science or relevant fields is required.
