The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.

The Division of Neurogeriatrics is focused on translational research in neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer disease.

Your mission

The candidate will work as independent researcher with group responsibility to lead a team with PhD students and postdocs at the Division of Neurogeriatrics. The mission is to perform preclinical Alzheimer disease research to delineate disease mechanisms and to bring forward potential translatable new targets to treat Alzheimer disease. In addition, the candidate needs to actively bring in funding to cover personnel and research costs. The candidate is expected to actively participate and contribute to the development of the division’s research, which should be exemplified by ongoing cross-disciplinary collaborations of the applicant.

The position is full-time and designed for 2 years.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate, having a postdoc experience and reached docent level competence. A strong scientific profile documented with publications in high profile journals is expected where the applicant has an independent line of research formulated within neurodegenerative diseases using in vivo models. Independence in terms of research funding is a requirement. Strong communications skills and international collaborations are advantageous. The candidate should have pedagogic skills and previous leadership experience.
