Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 research group leaders, of which 24 are full professors, 65 PhD students and 35 postdocs.

Division

The Brain, Body and Self Laboratory (Group Ehrsson) use neuroimaging and behavioral methods to study how we come to experience our own body as an object distinct from the environment (www.ehrssonlab.se). Our aim is to characterize the perceptual rules and brain mechanisms whereby a central representation of one's own body is constructed by the integration of signals from the different sensory modalities (e.g., vision, touch, and proprioception). We also investigate how the central body representation influences how we think, feel and remember ourselves, and how the external world looks to us. Our laboratory has expertise in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and behavioral approaches (including virtual reality technology). We have local access to two state-of-the-art 3T MRI scanners and one MEG scanner.

Duties

We are seeking a highly talented, innovative and enthusiastic researcher with a PhD awarded within the past three years in cognitive neuroscience or in a related discipline to work on projects involving body representation, body ownership, multisensory integration, embodied cognition, or processes related to the self-awareness.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in experimental psychology (preferably psychophysics) and/or fMRI (preferably multivoxel pattern analyses) and or TMS (preferably theta-burst rTMS) and/or MEG/ EEG. The candidate is expected to work within the general framework of the research program (www. ehrssonlab.se), but will be relatively free to formulate his or her own ideas and proposals for projects. It is important that the candidate can independently formulate original scientific questions and innovative designs for experiments. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a consistently excellent academic record, including publications in high quality international journals.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

Type of scholarship

The scholarship is for one year, with the possibility of extension to two years. The amount is 28000 SEK per month (tax free) and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis.
