The Department of Neurobiology Care Sciences and Society is responsible for education at basic and advanced levels, research education and clinical and experimental research within the different areas represented by the divisions. The Division of Nursing conducts education on all levels and research in nursing. Approximately 100 teachers and administrators are employed, and 20 doctoral students registered. The division is in an expansive phase regarding education as well as research.

Your mission

This position is part of a central strategic initiative to improve the conditions for a strong, close and mutually enriching integration of education and research at different levels. The appointee is expected to take responsibility for leading the development of educational activities to ensure a research integrated education of high quality.

We are looking for a person who with great engagement wants to lead and develop our education and research within the subject of nursing. One important area of responsibility for this position is to ensure high quality of research-based education. Examples of assignments are to lead development of syllabuses to ensure the progression of the subject nursing in the education programs and to participate in the pedagogic development beyond conducting teaching on all levels. This employment also includes leading and administrative duties to ensure the quality of education and to create sustainable structures for research and research-education. The duties will be worked out and adjusted from the applicant’s competence and interest but also from the needs of the department and can be adjusted over time.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

Scientific skills mean independence in leading high-quality research and communication of research with the society. Teaching skills mean independence in planning, conducting and leading education together with having a reflective approach towards teaching and own teaching role.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.

The applicant must have a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Since teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish, good language skills in Swedish are required in both speech and writing.

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

The Professor should conduct high-quality nursing research, have experience of leading a research group successfully, receive external grants and have international collaborations.

It is of importance that the candidate has experience of pedagogical/educational development work or research.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
