We are seeking a Data Scientist to work in Professor Karlsson Hedestam’s group at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. The group studies adaptive immunity and immunogenetics. For more information about the research, see http://ki.se/research/karlsson-hedestam

Research area
Modern immunology generates large datasets using high-throughput sequencing techniques. The Karlsson Hedestam group is on the forefront of methodological developments in this space, using next generation sequencing and developing computational analyses (see www.IgDiscover.se) to process such datasets. These projects generate large amounts of data, and the group is seeking to expand its analytic support, looking for someone to contribute to data analysis, statistics and visualization, for several ongoing research projects.

Qualifications
Applicants should be proficient in English, have an undergraduate educational background in a computational or statistical discipline, be proficient in a programming language relevant to Data Science (eg. Python, R, or Julia), and have Data Science skills (data cleaning, scripting, visualization, etc).

Skills and personal qualities
The successful candidate will have a solid background in statistics and computation, expertise in data analysis and visualization, and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment. The individual should be highly driven and motivated to solve problems, as well as be able to work independently while also being able to communicate effectively with other members of the team. A proven track-record of data science is valued. Extensive experience with Python, R, Julia, or similar programming languages is required.

The responsibilities/duties include:
Data QC, data management and archival storage; Analysis of large datasets, including development of new methods and tools for advanced analysis, support the ongoing research in the group, shape, develop and maintain the computing resources of the group.

Assessment criteria
A selection will be made among qualified applicants using the following bases of assessment:

- Knowledge of Python, R, Julia, and bash as well as experience with Github or related    resources
- Experience of working in a Linux environment
- Documented experience in data analysis and visualization
