Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Ola Larsson’s research group is searching for a post-doctoral fellow to perform cutting edge research joining tRNA biology and mRNA translation. The research environment is dynamic and multidisciplinary with both wet-lab and dry-lab components which vigorously interact to generate new knowledge. This fellowship will allow the accepted applicant to gain a set of unique insights into how gene expression is regulated and to drive discoveries facilitating future improvements of population health.

Your mission

This project involves applying state of the art-methods for global studies of mRNA translation and tRNA expression/modifications and downstream analysis and integration of large data sets. The goal is to understand tRNA biology in general and how it can underly human pathology. In particular, there will be a focus on understanding how dynamic changes in tRNA properties steers biological responses by modulating mRNA translation. The model systems will include both cancer and malaria. The successful applicant will perform wet-lab experiments to generate transcriptome-wide insights in mRNA translation as well as tRNA expression and modifications. The applicant is also expected to analyse the generated data set to identify links between tRNA expression/modifications and changes in mRNA translation which will potentially impact cellular phenotypes. The generated hypotheses will then be tested using systems biology approaches involving data-driven hypothesis refinement. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be proficient both in RNA molecular biology as well as analyses of large scale sequencing data set using e.g. R.

Your profile

The ideal applicant has a background in RNA molecular biology and analyses of large scale sequencing data sets. Specific knowledge in mRNA translation and tRNA biology is an advantage. Fluency in English is required. The applicant is expected to have published at least one paper containing primary research in a well-recognized journal as first author.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
