The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI) platform at SciLifeLab is a national resource that offers support and guidance, large-scale sequencing, and analysis of sequencing data to researchers and companies in Sweden. The Applications Development unit at NGI is now seeking a committed research engineer backfilling during a parental leave. We can offer a great opportunity for the right person to develop new skills and get the chance to contribute to the development of many widespread and interesting research projects.

Your mission

The successful candidate will be conducting laboratory work involving various DNA/RNA sequencing applications. This includes DNA/RNA quality control, preparation of sequencing libraries, operating and performing maintenance of laboratory instruments. The position will include communication with users of the facility and participation in method development and validation work.

Your profile

The successful applicant should have:

  • A degree in molecular biology or equivalent
  • Extensive experience of working in a laboratory environment
  • Experience of large-scale sequencing, especially with Illumina technology although other techniques for DNA- and RNA analysis are also meriting
  • Previous experience from service-oriented laboratory operations
  • Previous experience with information systems for laboratories and quality assurance (ISO)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in spoken as well as written English
  • An interest in employing new technologies and practice to pursue lab work which requires high precision
  • Experience of working in a dynamic environment with deadlines to meet
