- with focus on education and research

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

The Department of Dental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet provides undergraduate education for dental - , dental hygienist - and postgraduate students as well as master and doctoral studies. The Oral Diagnostics and Surgery Unit provides undergraduate training in oral biomedicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral radiology, and orofacial medicine.

Since this is a diversified unit, we conduct meaningful research in a number of areas, for example various tumor diseases in the oral cavity and oral side-effects of bone marrow transplantation, oral health of the elderly, and diagnostic imaging.

We collaborate closely with the Oral Diagnostics Clinic at the University Dental Clinic where clinical training takes place. About twenty teachers and researchers work at the unit.

Our goal is to increase knowledge about the underlying mechanisms of oral and maxillofacial diseases amongst different patient groups in order to improve diagnostics and rehabilitation, and thereby contribute to better oral health and quality of life. We achieve this by promoting high quality research and teaching with active doctoral student supervision in strong research teams, and with modern, student-oriented teaching methods in undergraduate education. We also strive to provide a good work environment for the division’s employees.
