The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2018 of 490 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The research group

Aging Research Center (ARC) is one of the divisions at the NVS Department, located at KI campus Solna. The Aging Research Center is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing psychology, sociology, and various branches of medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, and psychiatry). ARC is internationally renowned for its research on the health status of older adults, trends and inequality among old people, brain aging, and prevention of dementia. ARC’s mission is to understand the biomedical, psychological, and social aspects of the aging process in relation to physical and structural contexts across the entire lifespan. Our ultimate goal is to improve the health and well-being of older individuals by meeting the challenges and embracing the opportunities presented by the aging population.

Your mission

At ARC, we are seeking an enthusiastic research assistant to investigate the link between metabolic disorders and cognitive disorders, using longitudinal data from an ongoing cohort of Swedish older adults. The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to several ongoing projects within this line of research on the topic about the interplay of cardiometabolic diseases and diet on brain aging. The successful applicant will be involved in different aspects of the project(s), including the planning and data analysis of these studies, as well as contributing to the eventual drafting of manuscripts for publication. 

Your profile

Master’s degree in neuroscience or another relevant discipline in the life sciences with excellent academic performance. (Degree can be in progress but must be completed by the start date of the position).
Applicants should have experience working with epidemiological data and have demonstrated strong computational aptitude with software such as STATA. Prior research experience in the field of dementia epidemiology in particular is highly preferable. Additional background in diabetes or metabolic disease is considered extremely meritorious.
Furthermore, the applicant should be thorough, efficient, a good communicator, and enjoy working as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal English skills are required, and prior scientific publications are highly advantageous.
The position is designed for 6 months, with possibility of extension.
