The Department is organized in 10 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Neuropediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, Neonatology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuropsychiatry (KIND), Reproductive and Perinatal Health. The divisions have separate scientific profiles and vary in size and have several research groups, dealing with both basic and clinical science.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group
The division of Obstetrics and Gynecology conducts research mainly in three research fields: reproductive medicine, reproductive endocrinology and metabolism and gynaecological cancer. The research is both experimental and clinical. The division is also involved in educational activities for medical-, midwifery- and research students. The doctoral student will be part of Kristina Gemzell Danielsson’s research group that is based at the WHO collaborating center for Research and Research Training in Human Reproduction. The research is translational and organized in three subgroups/areas: experimental research, clinical trials and global reproductive health. The main vision is to improve the management and access to sexual and reproductive health in a global perspective and translate the research into clinical praxis and policy.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The PhD student is expected to pursue a translational PhD including studies related to assisted reproduction and early embryo development. The PhD project is intended for a medical doctor and can be partly combined with clinical work; thus, a clinical background is required. The project will mainly be performed in our wet lab at Bioclinicum. The PhD student will practice a number of experimental research techniques in our wet lab, coordinate clinical sample collection, perform in-depth bioinformatics analysis and gain a strong theoretical knowledgebase in assisted reproductive technologies and early embryo development. Next-generation sequencing technologies and bioinformatics are the main methods utilized in the project.  The project involves several international collaborations in Hong Kong and Europe which the student will have close contact with and visit during the PhD period.
