The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at http://ki.se/en/meb

Duties
Using various laboratory techniques to prepare biological material from cancer patients for analysis. The work also includes development of new methods. In-depth bioinformatics expertise in sequence analysis is an advantage , as this facilitates development . The work also requires the ability to work independently.

Entry requirements
Master of Science degree in relevant discipline (genetics , proteomics , etc.)

Experience in these operations , it is beneficial:

1) DNA/RNA- and protein extraction from tissue. Subsequent quality assurance of automated gel electrophoresis ( Bioanalyzer , Agilent ) and fluorescence -based quantification ( Qubit , Invitrogen). As RNA is susceptible to degradation , we want you as an applicant to have experience of working with RNA in RNAefree conditions.

2 ) Preparation of paired -end sequencing libraries for illumina sequencing . In order to optimally perform and develop protocols around libary dreparation is required detailed knowledge of the properties of the relevant enzyme tex ligases , polymerases , etc.

3) To carry out insolution sequence capture .

4) Running qPCR ( CFX Real-Time PCR System , Biorad) for quality assurance of enriched libraries (see item 3) and for quantification prior to sequencing.

In additional we seek a cooperative, diligent and open-minded person with an interest in working in a research lab .
