Your mission

The employment has a focus on research.

The position includes leadership for and own activities within clinical epidemiological research on pregnancy, obstetrics and the perinatal period at the Clinical Epidemiology Division, Department of Medicine Solna, teaching and research education / training within the field of clinical epidemiology at the same division, and clinical service at the Medical Unit Pregnancy and Delivery, Theme Women Health, Karolinska University Hospital.

Since the position aims at bridging and strengthening clinical care and research in its clinical area, the successful applicant is expected to take active part in further development of clinical research infrastructures within the field. The duties include some teaching in epidemiological theory and methodology at Karolinska Institutet.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills, and clinical expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet). 

The ideal applicant is expected to perform internationally competitive clinical epidemiological research in the field of pregnancy, delivery, or the perinatal period, as documented by the number and quality of publications in international peer-reviewed journals during the last five to seven years. The applicant must demonstrate external funding acquired as main applicant during the last five years, and successful supervision of doctoral students. Applicants must further possess all the formal merits required for a clinical position at the Karolinska University Hospital.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician in obstetrics and gynecology at the ME Pregnancy and Delivery at Karolinska University Hospital. Therefore, the successful candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in obstetrics and gynecology or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden. Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must demonstrate proficiency in Swedish at least corresponding to the C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Bases of assessment 

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (1).

Since the position aims to strengthen the clinical research infrastructure, experience from such work will be meritorious, as will experience from leadership and collaboration.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI. Since the intended employment is about developing the research area and future leadership, personal qualifications such as the ability to cooperate will weigh heavily.

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
