The Department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset, pursues undergraduate education, research education and internationally recognized research focusing on common diseases and injuries. The goal of all activities is to improve human health.

The research group in Pediatrics (Inger Kull) includes around 10 clinically active researchers and PhD students. We use epidemiological as well as a mix of qualitative methods to answer clinically relevant questions in the field of asthma and allergy. We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher with competence in epidemiology for a temporary position, maximum 2 years.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in different sub-projects within the large BAMSE study and carry out statistical analyses, prepare manuscripts for publication and present the work at scientific meetings. The duties include participation in data collection and data management. In addition, the work task will include contact with study participants. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to undertake a limited amount of teaching and supervise students.

The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in projects that aim to investigate risk factors for disease development, disease control and consequences of allergic diseases from childhood to adulthood.

The project is based on an ongoing birth cohort (BAMSE) where 4089 participants has been followed from birth and up to young adulthood. (www.ki.se/bamse).

Your profile

To be eligible for the present position the applicant must have a PhD degree in medical science in the area of epidemiology, as well as experience in epidemiological research. The successful applicant must be able to master basic statistical methods as applied in epidemiology, and be an independent user of statistical software (preferably STATA). If you have knowledge in environmental epidemiology and experience from working with cohort studies, we regard this as a merit.

Furthermore, very good knowledge in English including scientific writing is required. The applicant should also be proficient in Swedish in order to be able to communicate with study participants. We place great emphasis on personal qualities, and the applicant will need to both feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills and also be independent enough to formulate new hypotheses and critically examine the results.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
