The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. We educate almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. We are looking for the person who wants to contribute to the work at our Department!

Your mission

We are looking for a person with a strong commitment and competence in physiotherapy who can contribute to developing both education and research within the main area. In your role as a Senior Lecturer you are expected to develop and strengthen the education and research within physiotherapy. The employment includes teaching in areas of physiotherapy for example in; neurological disabilities, musculoskeletal health and physical activity. Teaching duties will be within the study programme in Physiotherapy, at basic and advanced levels as well as within supplementary courses with associated course responsibilities, examinations and scientific supervision. Swedish is the language used in education, hence good proficiency in Swedish is required, however teaching in English may occur.

As a Senior Lecturer you should actively conduct research within the area of physiotherapy and have your own ongoing research line and research production of high quality. As a Senior Lecturer you have the opportunity to contribute to the academic leadership at the division as you take part in national and international networks. You can develop research and research education in cooperation with the staff at the division. The work tasks will be tailored to some degree based on the applicant’s competencies and interests as well as the organization’s needs. This can also evolve and change over time.

The appointment as a Senior Lecturer may, by special agreement, be combined with a position with clinical part-time employment at SLL, Stockholm County Council.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

We are looking for a candidate with an undergraduate education in physiotherapy and is a registered physiotherapist. The candidate should furthermore have built up his/her own research line within his/her own research area in physiotherapy. The position requires documented knowledge and experience of teaching physiotherapy at an undergraduate level. Since teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish, good language skills in Swedish are required in both speech and writing.

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: educational expertise (3), research expertise (2), clinical expertise (2) leadership development and collaboration expertise (1).

When assessing the applicants, it is of great importance with pedagogical and scientific skills. When assessing the pedagogical skills, consideration will be given to planning, conducting and evaluation of

teaching. When assessing the scientific skills, particular emphasis will focus on research within physiotherapy. Having experience of course responsibilities, pedagogical development work, and clinical experience is considered of merit. It is an advantage if you have experience of supervision of doctoral students and experience of leadership.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
