Karolinska Institutet,

The Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK) carries out both preclinical and clinical research within numerous fields. Linked to the department are approximately 450 researchers, postgraduate students, teachers and technical & administrative staff and we currently have about 150 PhD students. The department is conducting undergraduate courses for medical students, physiotherapist students, biomedicine students and biomedical laboratory students.

Division
The postdoctoral position is placed in the Clinical Genetics research group at MMK with professor Outi Mäkitie and professor Richard Rosenquist Brandell as project leaders. Read more:https://ki.se/en/mmk/clinical-genetics?_ga=2.85783195.303080718.1562566572-8615944.1547806620

Duties
We aim to recruit a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a  research background in clinical and molecular genetics and rare skeletal diseases. The project will focus on the use of different genetic technologies to identify the cause of disease in families with rare skeletal phenotypes. An important goal is to implement the MPS pipeline to increase the likelihood of identifying the cause of disease. Once a candidate variant is found, the researcher will work together with other experts in the team to establish in vitro cell models as well as in vivo studies in zebrafish to validate the findings. The appointed person will be expected to work with molecular biologists, physicians and bioinformaticians, as well as to actively participate in national and international collaborative research projects

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.
We are interested in candidates with prior experience in performing array-comparative genomic hybridization (array-CGH), Sanger sequencing and massively parallel sequencing (MPS). Applicants are required to have completed a PhD degree or higher in a field related to the position, such as clinical genetics, human genetics or similar. Further requirements are:

  • Documented experience in molecular biology and skeletal research.
  • Documented experience in analysis of whole-genome sequencing data and coding in Linux.
  • Basic experience in zebrafish modeling using CRISPR-Cas9 technology will be considered as a distinct advantage.
  • Documented ability to write scientific articles and a track record of publications in international refereed journals is required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues in very diverse fields, including clinical staff, and the ability to document work.
  • Elementary knowledge in written and spoken Swedish is a significant merit.

Personal suitability is an important criterion.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
