The Department of Dental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet provides undergraduate education for dental-, dental hygienist- and postgraduate students as well as master and doctoral studies. The orthodontic unit provides undergraduate training in orthodontics, international postgraduate training in orthodontics and master and doctoral education. Within the University Dental Clinic treatments are performed in orthodontics and jaw orthopedics. The unit of orthodontics focuses on multidisciplinary evidence based orthodontic treatment and research on patients with craniofacial malformations.

Your mission

The employment has a focus on education and research.

We are looking for a person who is passionate for developing education and research within the orthodontic, jaw orthopedic field and to develop a close collaboration between the Department of Dental Medicine and University Dental Clinic, Clinical genetics and the New Karolinska University Hospital with multidisciplinary work within the Stockholm Craniofacial Center. An important task is to strengthen the links between research and education. The position involves both theoretical teaching and overall planning of teaching as well as development of courses and study programmes offered at undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels of education.

The occupant should conduct active research at a high international standard. The position as Professor also includes supervision of doctoral and postdoctoral students and the advancement of the discipline. You are expected to actively work on seeking external research funding.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist in orthodontics within the clinic for orthodontics and the jaw orthopedic clinic, University Dental Clinic and therefore the candidate must have a DDS with specialist competence in orthodontics, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing dentistry in Sweden.

Knowledge of Swedish and English are language requirements.

You should further have:

  • documented pedagogic skills and experience of teaching at undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels
  • develop and lead a research group that includes both clinical and translational research
  • beeing active in research

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (1), and clinical expertise (2).

Experience of work in jaw orthopedics is of merit.

Experience of research focusing on craniofacial malformations is meriting.

During the assessment of the applicants we weigh the personal capacities high, such as good planning ability and co-operation ability.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
