Karolinska Institutet

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology we teach and conduct internationally acclaimed, high-quality research in Physiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Intensive care. We have around 400 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students. Our research fields include cellular signaling, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroinflammation, pharmacogenetics, regenerative medicine, Renal System, anesthesiology and intensive care, muscle physiology and pain. Our collaboration with the clinics at Karolinska University Hospital provides unique opportunities for translational research within our subjects. Division
The work of the research division is dedicated to different aspects of cell, organismal and molecular biology being applied to a wide range of pathological conditions. The areas of research in this division also include classic developmental biology and regenerative medicine with inclinations into neuroscience and muscle-skeletal fields. Especially, the focus is place on the tissue integration and interactions between a variety of cell types comprising the tissue.

Duties
The applicant will carry out the muscle biology projects under supervision of Associate Professor Igor Adameyko. The projects will concern muscle growth and polarization in vivo and in vitro. The work will include lots of investigations of multiple phenotypes in transgenic animals with labelled and defective muscle-skeletal systems. The techniques that the applicant will use include live imaging on developing zebrafish embryos, Tol2-system0based transgenesis and generation of gene knock outs via CRISPR/CAS9 system. The applicant will collect the data, maintain the fish lines including their genotyping and profiling, and, finally will participate in writing the manuscripts.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.

In addition to this, displayed pedagogical proficiency or other related skills that are relevant to the appointment's duties may be required to be eligible.

Bases of assessment
This expertise needs to be supported by a strong track record in muscle biology field (publications in excellent journals in this specific research domain). We expect the applicant to be experienced in work with zebrafish model system, including live imaging with light sheet microscopes, cell tracking, generation of transgenics with Tol2 ssyste, and knockout fish lines. The applicant should be knowledgeable in developmental biology in general and should have basic understanding of single cell methods.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English: Curriculum vitae, qualifications and description of planned research, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet’s qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/qualificationsportfolio).

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
