Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Sandberg

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
The Eukaryotic Single Cell Genomics Facility located at the Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm is looking for a highly qualified research engineer.
Based in Stockholm, the focus of ESCG is on high throughput streamlined transcriptome and genome analysis of large numbers of individual eukaryotic cells.

We are looking for a highly qualified research engineer for a six months substitute employment with the possibility for extension. The position is a parental leave substitute (vikariat).

Duties
At the facility, RNA or DNA sequence libraries are constructed from single-cell suspensions using stateof-the-art technology. You will handle delicate primary cell samples, fragile RNA and sensitive instruments on a daily basis.

Your responsibilities will include running single-cell methods, RNA-isolation and sequencing library construction, microscopy, image analysis and quality control. Methods include Smart-seq2 protocol, Chromium system from 10X Genomics and custom protocol established on the ICELL8 Wafergen Biosystems. Additionally, you will operate liquid handling robots, qPCR/PCR, and Bioanalyzer instruments. Other tasks include ordering, inventory, risk assessments and other administrative tasks.

Entry requirements
The ideal candidate has a university degree in molecular biology, biomedical science, biotechnology or similar discipline. A PhD degree in a relevant field may be advantageous. Previous work experience with RNA and primary cells is required. Experience with high-throughput sample preparation of RNA and/or DNA is desirable as well as working with sample preparation at a clinical analysis laboratory or comparable. Previous work with single-cell techniques is an advantage. You should have experience in working in a laboratory environment following good laboratory practices (GLP) including biosafety rules.

You should be service minded, enjoy learning new methods, be thorough and diligent in your work, and be proficient with documenting.
