Karolinska Institutet, Department of Oncology-Pathology, StratCan

At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians.

Division
The Strategic Research Programme in Cancer at KI, StratCan (https://ki.se/en/stratcan), active at the Department of Oncology and Pathology, constitutes an overall umbrella organization with the task of representing cancer research at KI, which is a broad and geographically dispersed research area with research groups at most KI institutions.
StratCan is an initiative funded by the Swedish Research Council to strengthen and expand the already strong cancer research at Karolinska Institutet. StratCan works to increase contacts between cancer researchers from different disciplines, from basic tumor biology to clinical oncology. In addition, to increase cooperation with external actors, for example in industry.

Area of responsibilities/description of the work
The research coordinator shall work to promote and facilitate the cooperation between the included research groups. In addition, he/she shall coordinate and be responsible for information activities. Promotion and coordination of external contacts with, for example, hospitals, industry and international research centers are also included. Budget - and coordination of scientific arrangements (conferences, summer schools, theme days, etc.) form part of the tasks. The work also includes writing meeting minutes at various board meetings and being responsible for the call process for research grants (call for proposals, advertising and compilation of applications received).

Qualifications
The research coordinator must have a PhD in the biomedical field. It is also an advantage if he/she has work experience from academia and/or industry with similar tasks. In addition, experience of project coordination is considered a merit. The research coordinator should have good language skills in English and Swedish, both in speech and writing. Good written and stylistic ability is required as well as experience of oral presentations.
You should be service-oriented, structured, independent, flexible and stress-resistant and have the ability to work with several different tasks simultaneously. In addition, collaboration and prioritization skills are required. You should also be a good communicator.
