The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

Your mission

The employment has a focus on research. The focus on advertised position is to independently conduct translational research on mechanisms with relevance to the pathobiology of asthma and allied diseases, involving both animal models as well as work with clinical material.  Thus, the applicant should have documented experience from such translational research. Duties include leading and conducting research in the field including supervision of doctoral students and postdoctoral scientists. The work includes also participation in education at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level. 

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills and, (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

We are searching for an independent researcher who has her/his own research funding that has been acquired through competition.  Prior experience of leading a research group is necessary.

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (1) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (1).

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
