Division

At the unit of Experimental Asthma and Allergy Research, Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, we carry out basic as well as applied research around mechanisms in asthma and allergy, with a special focus on mast cell biology, leukotrienes and other mediators. From the unit we coordinate a number of large projects on the mechanisms of severe asthma and the value of biomarkers at diagnosis and treatment of asthma.

This position will be at the Unit for experimental asthma and allergy research and is temporary for one year.

Duties

The unit has long-standing international experience with research on mechanisms and biomarkers in asthma.  This has created unique biobanks of different samples (blood, urine, saliva, sputum, bronchioalveolar lavage fluid, and collections of exhaled particles) from cohorts of patients with asthma and other respiratory or inflammatory diseases.  We are now seeking a post doctoral researcher who can lead a research project to be conducted in collaboration with the Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm.  The aim is to use the affinity proteomics technique to perform molecular sub-phenotyping of asthma and other immune-related diseases.  The project is supported by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, EU/IMI, ALF and the Swedish Heart Lung Foundation.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a Ph.D. in affinity proteomics and extensive experience with translational biomarker research and advanced biostatistical analysis of data.  Demonstrated excellent communication skills and an ability to interact socially and scientifically with other post docs and students in the laboratory and with collaborators in various networks are essential because of the international nature of this project.  Because the work includes participation in international networks and project groups, the candidate must be prepared to travel abroad when required.
