We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher for a 2-year full time employment focusing on the use of evidence-based methods in social care. The specific focus is on adaptation and adherence when using evidence-based methods.

About the research group
The Intervention processes and outcomes (PROCOME) research group focuses on effects and implementation of different kinds of programs and initiatives aiming to improve services (e.g. evidence based methods) in different type of organizations, with specific focus on health and social care.

The project and work tasks
The work will take place within the boundaries of a FORTE funded research project “How can evidence-based interventions give the best value for service users? Balance between adherence and adaptations”. The starting point is the expectations on social services to provide services based on scientific evidence, which has shown to be challenging in practice. Evidence-based interventions seldom fit into a specific setting and are often adapted, which can be problematic from effectiveness perspective. This introduces the adherence and adaptation dilemma i.e. to what extent an intervention needs to adhere to the original model and to what extent purposeful changes in response to restraints and possibilities in the context are acceptable. This research project investigates how this dilemma is handled in social services and whether a structured decision support can impact the management of the dilemma. The project is a collaboration with three regional R & D centers (FOU nu, FoU Nordväst and Äldrecentrum). The project builds on a participatory and interactive approach between academic researchers, researchers at R&D centers and social service organizations.

As a post-doc, you will be involved in all parts of the project. The work tasks include setting up an intervention study in collaboration with the research team, R&D units and the collaborating social care organizations, writing an ethical application, collecting data (mainly through individual and group interviews and questionnaires) and running qualitative and quantitative analysis. The tasks also include conducting a scoping review of the literature, writing scientific articles, and presenting findings at scientific conferences, and may also include helping organizations to implement the results. Lastly, the work tasks also include administrative tasks related to the research process, including establish routines related to research documentation.
